AudioPorn Records, the brainchild of celebrated producer, Shimon Alcoby was launched in 2007, and has quickly established itself in the electronic dance music scene as a label at the forefront of creativity and new talent. Its success can be traced back not only to its impressive artist roster such as Dirtyphonics, Tali, Moving Fusion, Ant Miles, Camo & Krooked, and more recently Xilent, High Maintenance, Mediks, Youthstar, and Dilemn, but also to its creator and owner, Shimon. Having been a huge contributor in the growth of Ram Records for over a decade, Shimon was an integral part of the label from 1994 through 2006 releasing anthem after anthem with hits such as ‘Quest’, the instantly recognizable ‘Hush Hush’, the infectious ‘Body Rock’, and the hugely popular ‘The Shadow Knows’. He also made up one-third of the super-group Ram Trilogy, alongside Ant Miles & Andy C, releasing a torrent of chart-topping tracks such as ‘Chase Scene’, ‘Gridlock’, ‘Titan’, ‘Beastman’, and ‘Screamer’, helping to build the iconic reputation the label enjoys today.
For most people that would be enough, but Shimon's desire to push himself and start anew made him leave the comfortable surroundings of Ram, and instead begin a brand new record label, AudioPorn Records. Taking on this daunting task did not come lightly, but for Shimon it was the only way to fully realize his creative ambitions. Established to improve on the sound he helped create with Ram, as well as push a fresh exciting sound, AudioPorn was founded with its main aim to produce the "beautiful and aggressive energy" that got Shimon into Drum and Bass in the first place.
The fledgling label hit the ground running with releases from Shimon, Matrix, and Sparfunk, as well as a return by the mighty Ram Trilogy. In the following years, AudioPorn quickly forged a reputation as one of the most creative labels in the scene and also broke in a variety of new artists along the way. As well as a platform for his own work, AudioPorn became a hot bed for new talent, being the label first to discover Dirtyphonics. After the releases of ‘French Fuck’ and the genre-breaking ‘Quarks’, Dirtyphonics released one of the labels biggest releases to date, the modern-anthem, ‘Vandals’. "It started as a rave, it ended in a riot"... the phrase has become part of Drum and Bass pop culture and made ‘Vandals’ an instantly recognizable club anthem, still holding the #1 spot on Beatport’s all-time classics chart. This was followed by another classic,‘Teleportation’, which stayed put in many top DJs record box for well over a year. The French quartet have since gone on to tour the world with their much talked about live performances, as well as some big name remixes for the likes of Nero, ShockOne, The Bloody Beetroots, Does It Offend You, Yeah?, Skrillex, and Ram Trilogy..
Showing the label’s versatility and ability to release cross-over genre hits, Camo & Krooked made a guest appearance on the label with the #1 hit, ‘History Of The Future’. Meanwhile, label boss Shimon also reunited with fellow Ram alumni Ant Miles & Moving Fusion on ‘Pimp Slap’, as well as putting out a single which included Tantrum Desire’s dancefloor remix of ‘The Smoker’, backed with ‘Vengeance’, a 2-step hit modeled after the swing-beat made famous by the wildly succesful anthem ‘Body Rock’. However, much like his desire to build from past achievements and move onto even bigger things, Shimon's label is also adamant not to rest on its laurels. Over the last few years, the recent signings of Xilent, High Maintenance, and Fourward have underlined AudioPorn's commitment to discovering new talent. Xilent's ‘Choose Me II’ was featured as Zane Lowe's ‘Next Hype’ track on his Radio1 show, as well as receiving over 1 million views on YouTube, whilst High Maintenance’s single ‘With You’ / ‘Nowhere’ marked a debut brimming with creative flair and studied technical arrangement. Austrian quartet Fourward marked their debut on the label after appearing on MC Tali’s album sampler ‘Facing Forwards / Who Can Say.'
2012 so far has seen the label marry creative excellence with boundary-pushing innovation, releasing a wave of refreshingly varied music from forward-thinking artists such as Hybrid Minds, plus the exclusively signed super-trio Mediks and the genre-kaleidoscopic French maestro Dilemn. Presenting some of the finest debut EPs from breakthrough artists the scene has to offer, Hybrid Minds’ eponymous debut combined classic sampling techniques with soulful rolling arrangments and Grimm’s sultry vocals – the official video for ‘Lost’ in particular racking up nearly 500,000 views – whilst Mediks’ Outbreak EP soon after presented a 4-track assortment of choice tearout, dancefloor-orientated cuts and uplifting vibes, receiving a rare 9.5 out of 10 review from reveared journal Mixmag. AudioPorn’s very own superstar-in-the-making Xilent dropped the universally-lauded and artistically unique, self-titled Ultrafunk EP in late spring, picking up a list of accolades in the process: Zane Lowe’s Hottest Track In The World and worldwide exclusive spin for ‘Beyond’, Radio 1 support across the board from Fearne Cotton – who premiered ‘Do It’ during her primetime slot – Annie Mac and DnB supremo Friction, and DJ support from luminaries such as Skrillex, Nero and many more. AudioPorn are set to introduce another hybrid musician in the form of Dilemn: his debut Talk About Us EP merges Daft Punk-esque French House vibes with a supreme, multi-genre technical ability and astute attention to detail, also featuring songstress de jour Ayah Marar on the tearing title track. Sure to raise Dilemn’s glowing domestic reputation onto a worldwide plateau, the EP signals Shimon’s firm eye for talent and boundless aspirations for a label not only content with supplying the best 174 Drum & Bass but also the finest electronic music from artists making waves in an already over-saturated scene. The future could not be more exciting for AudioPorn Records.
