Katy Perry - Wide Awake (XILENT Remix)
UK based electronic producer Xilent has been approached to remix Katy Perry’s latest single ‘Wide Awake,’ the promotional single for her new movie ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’ set for release in July 2012.
Having accepted the award for Artist of the Year 2012 at the NARM Music Awards and performed the debut for the single at this year’s Billboard Music Awards, Katy Perry announced that the down-tempo song ‘Wide Awake’ will feature in the build-up to the biographical concert feature-film ‘Part Of Me 3D’ with a single release this summer.
The ‘Wide Awake’ single package will feature one of the UK’s leading electronic artists, Brighton-based producer Xilent signed exclusively to AudioPorn Records, whose original work and remixes impressed EMI’s executives sufficiently to approach him as the only Dubstep remixer of Katy Perry’s original song, which the songstress herself has also personally approved. Xilent has previously remixed for leading electronic label Ministry of Sound, receiving widespread BBC Radio 1 and DJ support from luminaries such as Skrillex, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, and Nero for his remixes of Yogi Ft. Ayah Marar’s ‘Follow U’ and PNAU’s ‘Unite Us,’ whilst Mercury’s Sub Focus personally asked for Xilent to remix his huge new single ‘Out The Blue’. The artist’s original work has received numerous industry award nominations including Best Newcomer Producer at the 2011 Drum & Bass Arena Awards, Beatport’s Top Dubstep Track of the Year 2011 for ‘Choose Me II’. While Zane Lowe’ named one of his tracks his ‘Hottest Record In The World’ for ‘Beyond,’ and Fearne Cotton favourited ‘Do It’ on her coveted daytime show, both tracks featuring in his latest 4-track ‘Ultrafunk’ EP for AudioPorn Records.
The 'Wide Awake' remix itself is signature Xilent: an understated opening progresses naturally into its soaring synths and crescendo flourish, working in harmony with Katy Perry’s stirring original vocals; a full representation of the producer’s undiluted attention to detail. The track moves forward layered with an immaculate percussive arrangement and twinkling futuristic fragments, interspersed with flickering mids and an airy expanse that flirts with the destructive amidst the euphoria. Xilent ensures that the piece simultaneously retains enough venom to damage the dancefloor and maintain its core ease-of-listening, a glowing testament to the producer’s seemingly boundlesscreative technique.
With a universal appeal and glowing rapport from all corners of the electronic scene, especially with the legions of fans brought to him by the constant patronage of UKF Dubstep, Xilent has always been something special and he continues to prove with the Katy Perry ‘Wide Awake’ remix that the future could not be more exciting.
